Our Story from Berkeley to Backpacking
Our journey started in 2016 at the University of California, Berkeley. Scott was deep into his Master’s in Architecture, obsessing over structural design and functional spaces. Emily was studying cosmetic science and modern wellness, tracking how lifestyle choices impact our daily well-being.
What began as coffee-fueled study sessions at the campus library quickly turned into a deep friendship, rooted in a shared obsession: we both loved researching things to absolute perfection. Whether we were planning a weekend backpacking trip, comparing the durability of hiking gear, or hunting for the best value-for-money espresso machine, we couldn’t just buy something—we had to know the “why” behind its quality.
After years of shared adventures, dating, and dreaming, we got married in 2021
How the Website Was Born
Like many couples, the pandemic forced us into spending 24/7 together inside a small living space. This was the ultimate testing ground. Scott began reimagining our home layout, diving into DIY home improvement projects, and researching the most ergonomic tools for remote work. Meanwhile, Emily was filtering out toxic skincare chemicals and reviewing wellness products that actually delivered on their promises.
We realized we had a unique dynamic. Scott looked at the world through the lens of structural design, materials, and long-term durability. Emily analyzed it through ingredients, everyday usability, and modern aesthetics.
